Many of you probably know this, but you can get a no-frills (text-capable), basic cell phone at Wal-Mart.
My son got a gift card for Christmas this year and he bought himself a Tracfone for $14.99. This phone came with "double minutes for life". If you don't need a lot of minutes, it looks like the cheapest phone cards you can get are $9.99, 30 minutes (60 with his phone) good for 60 days, so that would work out to about $5.00 a month. During the activation process, they offered to port an old cell number over to the new phone.
You could downsize your existing, expensive $50-100/month phone to $5. Not a bad savings.
